Workshops are coming!

I just spend the weekend at a terrific conference, “Develop Successful Workshops” at the Omega Institute.  Great Conjunction has been looking for the best ways to expand and grow.  The Metaphysical Expos and our monthly Lecture series has been a fantastic way to introduce ourselves to the metaphysical community and we will continue with those amazing programs, but our next endeavor will be to expand our workshop offerings.  There is still a lot to digest from my experience and while some of it will be behind the scenes, expect to see more from Great Conjunction as well as Joe and I in the coming months!

Spiritual Teachers

If you don't follow Caroline Myss, this is a great time to start.

Like most of us in the spiritual community (especially those of us who make our living as teachers, healers and psychics) most of what she shares is positive and uplifting with a dash of marketing, but she recently shared her thoughts on the current political climate and while she mentioned no names, she was not shy.

Naturally she was attacked for getting political. I was struck by two responses she gave to that attack: "Speaking up is not being "political"; it is an act of conscience."

"What is the role of a spiritual teacher if not to alert people that we are traveling into dangerous water."

Those of us who are spiritual teachers and speakers of Truth owe it to ourselves and the world to speak out when we see Fear and Pain exploited for political and monetary gain. Any political leader who uses fear to further thier career and financial interests does not deserve your patronage. Anyone who tells you to give up faith, love and hope if you want to be safe is promoting darkness and anyone who tell you that "They" are not like "Us" and must be excluded and driven from our shores (whoever the hell "They" are) is wrong and acting against the forces of Love.

Love is the antidote to far and hatred. Reject those who tell you to hate and embrace those who speak of love.

I love you.

Divination - Old School

Divination professorAs I continue the ever-evolving re-write of my psychic development manual, I'm adding a section on different types of divination and the ways your physical brain processes the non-physical information provided by psychic abilities.
Sounds dry, yes? NOT AT ALL!
For everyone out there complaining about the current rise angel/fairy/unicorn/dragon/pixie readers and talking about how old school and normal your style is; Remember, not very long ago in human history the most respected form of divination was haruspication - the slaughter of animals and inspection of their entrails. If we still did that these days most psychics would have to give up the purple velvet and flowing capes for rubber gloves and aprons.

Great Conjunction (501c3)

GCSCLogoLightAfter many months of work Great Conjunction is now a 501c3 non-profit!  With our new designation we are forming the Great Conjunction Spiritual Center with psychic fairs, lectures and workshops.  We are also raising money for a permanent home for Great Conjunction, a center where we can hold yoga classes, retreats and all sorts of spiritually based programing.

I am absolutely over the moon.  For years I have worked to bring healing, light and energy through my readings, lectures and classes – and I love what I do and I am extremely proud of what I have been able to accomplish and the people I have been able to help.  Still, I dreamt of a place were people could come together for deep spiritual work and healing with a diverse group of teachers and light workers.  When I shared that dream with Joe he dove right in, bringing a drive and focus that has just been inspiring.  We started with the psychic fairs and are building momentum as we share learning and light throughout northeast Ohio.

You can help us in our mission by joining us at a lecture, workshop or psychic fair – sharing your enthusiasm for learning and spiritual growth.  You can also make a tax deductible donation to Great Conjunction – your donations will help fund our workshop scholarship program and the construction of the Great Conjunction Spiritual Center.

Thank you for letting me share this amazing new organization with you, you can find out more at our website, www.greatconjunction.org or by joining us at one of our upcoming events.

You can always contact me for more about Great Conjunction, psychic readings and workshops.  I am so excited to see what we can build together!

Stuff to make yoga even better

Over the past year I have had the privilege of being asked to review a a number of products from Yoga Addict and Mandukka. I wanted to share some of them with you.  I don;t spend a lot of money on yoga stuff.  My first teachers were all about the work, not the stuff.  My early mats were crap that peeled and flaked after a few weeks.  I used blocks cut from industrial foam, wood and old books.  We were hard core and we loved it!

Now I have a beautiful mat, great equipment and blocks in pastel colors.

Now is better.

As you become more dedicated to your yoga practice you realize that there are products that make it easier and more enjoyable. Comfortable clothing, a great mat and a few props cam make it easier to focus on the practice and not be distracted by the accessories.  These are a few of my favorites.

The Best Mat I've ever Owned: Manduka Pro

When I first started taking yoga 25 years ago I used these thin, green mats my teacher cut off a giant roll and sold for $10. They had no padding and started to peel and flake after a few months. I remember washing particles of it out of my contacts after class and the salty rubbery taste in the back of my throat. I didn't know any better and I loved yoga. At 40 I'm not sure I would have it in me to practice yoga in a school cafeteria on that mat anymore. Thanks be to any God who is listening that I don't have to anymore.

Two years ago my boyfriend bought this for me at Christmas and I still love it. It still looks great, it provides fantastic support and cushion and I love it. No other mat has held up like this, cleaned as easily and been so cushy yet supportive. Even on carpet, the slight stiffness of the mat makes it easier to balance. I've used this mat in beautiful yoga studios, in old school rooms, outside, on pavement and gravel. If you do yoga where you are, where ever you are, this is the mat for you.

My only complaints are how slippery it gets when I sweat and how stiff it gets in winter.

 Two Great Yoga Bags:

For years I just tied my yoga strap around my mat to grab and go, but especially during the summer when I don't have a coat with pockets to stash mt stuff in, these bags are great!

Yoga[Addict] Yoga Mat Bag "Supreme"

First of all, this is a beautiful yoga bag, I get compliments about it every time I take it to class. It is plenty big enough for my Manduka mat, well balanced and easy to carry with lots of pockets and places to stash valuables. This is my go to bag as a student especially if I am going to a studio class. As a teacher and someone who frequently does yoga outside and in "non-studio" locations (community centers, churches and parks) this falls a bit short, the pockets are just a bit to small for yoga blocks and I still have to bring a separate bag for props and blankets. I love it and wish I could use this bag more than I do.

I you are a yoga student, this is a perfect bag for you.

YogaAddict Yoga Mat Bag With Pocket:
This is the simpler option.

I have a big, heavy mat. My Manduka is the best mat I've ever used, but it weighs more than my mixed breed Rottweiler, finding a bag that has room and doesn't cut into my shoulder is hard to find - this bag fits the bill. It is good looking, sturdy and easy to carry. It doesn't have all the extras that some bags have, but I don't need 20 pockets and a built in lawn chair. This is a great, simple bag.

When I first started I wore my gym clothes. While I don't think you have to spend lots of money on yoga clothes, these are nice.

Yoga[Addict]™ Men Yoga Shorts:
The first thing I noticed about these shorts is how soft and thick the material is; the last few pairs of yoga pants and shorts I've purchased were thin and flimsy feeling. The material breathes well, soaks up sweat and does not feel constricting. They are extremely comfortable, move well and stay on even through multiple Sun Salutations, inversions and pigeons.

These are my favorite exercise shorts, I use them for yoga, cardio and strength training.  WHen I started taking aerial yoga this year, these were my go to pants for ease of movement without getting in the way.  Sadly, the waistband is starting to seperate and curl making them less flattering and comfortable.  Great shorts, but could last longer.

Be aware, they are designed to be form fitting and will show off you booty, if that's not what you are after, you may want to go a size up.

Yoga[Addict]™ Yoga Socks and Gloves Set

I've had these for a few weeks now and the more I use them the more I like them. I rarely have trouble with my mat getting to sweaty and slippery, my biggest problem is cold mornings when I cannot get traction in certain poses, like Downdog. These have been great for morning yoga and my more quiet practices. The gloves can get uncomfortable between the fingers in certain poses but the socks are wonderful. They make standing balances easier, help my ankles warm up and provide great traction - I want to wear them all the time.

Non Slip Skid Socks:
I love an intense yoga session, but these are prefect for a few quick warmup poses before other workouts. When I can't get outside for my workout I like MMX style cardio workouts and will often do a few yoga poses to warm up, wearing these I can quickly transition from yoga to cardio without taking the time to put the mat away and let my heart rate slow.
They fit snugly without feeling constricting, don't leave my feet feeling sweaty and let me run through the house without slipping on the wood floors. My only complaint is I wish they had dots on the toes as well. Great product!

Practical Reiki Classes

I don't know how long I have known Alice Langholt, the creator of Practical Reiki, but I remember my first impressions:

It was at the Universal Light Expo and she was this short, spunky ball of energy who bounced up to me and started talking about energy.  She was insightful, witty and had a strong moral code that impressed me.  This was just about the time Reiki was going mainstream and I was inundated by "fakie reiki" people trying to sell Reiki in a thousand different ways.  At first I was skeptical about her premise - Reiki simplified, but the more I talked to her and looked into her materials the more I was impressed by what she had achieved.  She had distilled Reiki down to its basics and tailored it to the mainstream health care industry.

For a long time it seemed like it was just going to be Alice against the world, but then she did it again when she started teaching others, not only how to practice this simplified Reiki, but how to teach it themselves.  Alice has gone to a better place (a very nice home in Maryland), but her best and brightest student is still here.

IMG 2295When Joe and I first met he had never studied Reiki, but he had been fascinated for years and dove in like a dolphin to the ocean.  Studying Usui Reiki, Pranic Healing, Practical Reiki and diving deeply into energy medicine. I have watched his expanding knowledge and talent with awe and pride over these last few years and I am so very excited that he has begun teaching.

When I introduced him to Alice I had no idea what it would become, but his first Practical Reiki class starts March 19th.

I am incredibly impressed by the thoroughness of his preparations and planning for these classes, building on the foundation Alice laid out.  I can say with certainty that this training will be life-changing.

Now I'll let him tell you about it:

Your Spiritual Toolkit - Psychic Development Intensive Class – Learning to use your natural psychic gifts.

This Psychic Development Intensive Class is 16 hours long, divided into four 4-hour classes - $350 tuition.

Class size is limited – 14 Student Max, all students must be pre-registered.

Learn to be a psychic reader for yourself and others. In this class you will learn how to communicate with your spirit guides, receive messages and connect with your intuition. We will use meditation, group activities, partner work, and the “Seven Steps to Center” to explore divination, clairvoyance and your innate psychic abilities.

This is a challenging workshop. We will work with sensitive issues including emotions, relationships, forgiveness, ethics and morality as well as contacting spirits, reading the future, accessing health information, drawing the aura, and reading chakras. We will discuss business practices and legality for those who want to work professionally. Wear comfortable clothes as we will be moving about and taking the occasional field trip.

This class does not use cards, crystal balls or other tools. The magic is in you, not the wand or pendulum. Once you have learned how to access your own power all the tools and toys can be helpful and fun, but unnecessary. It’s all about learning to access your psychic abilities and unleash your mystical, magical mojo.

All Students will receive a psychic reading from John Thornton (included in registration fee) before class begins. Students also receive study materials including a workbook and access to the Student Forum. Graduates will receive a graduation certificate and will also be eligible for John Michael Thornton’s graduate workshops.
